Massena Memorial Hospital proudly welcomes the first baby of Massena for 2018. Isabel Blanchard was born at 4:45 am Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018 at Tender Touches Birthing Center. Isabel was born to Ashley and Justin Blanchard of Massena. Isabel weighed 7 pounds, 12.5 ounces, and measured 19 ½ inches long. Certified Nurse Midwife Barb Hillis, CNM, delivered Isabel.
Ashley Blanchard said her husband joked throughout her pregnancy that their baby would be the first one born in Massena in 2018. Ashley was not too sure, because the baby’s due date was not until Jan. 6. Turns out, dad was right. Isabel wanted to make sure she could enjoy as much of 2018 as possible when she arrived in the early morning of Jan. 2.
Isabel joins her big sister, Madelyn Blanchard, 13, and big brother, Bryce Blanchard, 2 ½.
“Bryce is very excited. He has already come to visit her. He loves her already,” said Ashley. “Madelyn is excited to have a sister to love and help take care of too.”
Isabel was also welcomed into the world by grandmother, Betty Brothers. Ashley is a Special Education Teacher at Nightengale Elementary School in the Massena Central School District and Justin is a Project Coordinator for Danko Construction.
Every child’s birth is a wonderful and magical time. A New Year’s Baby is even more special as several local businesses donated several gifts to Massena Memorial Hospital for the first baby born this year. The Blanchards received a valuable bundle of gifts and gift certificates from the following merchants and organizations:
