Hospitals across St. Lawrence County, including Massena Memorial Hospital, partner with St. Lawrence County Public Health to offer the “Walk with a Doc” series every month. During these events, health care providers, hospital staff members and community members convene at a predetermined location to get active and go for walk. MMH hosted the most recent walk on Saturday, September 28, 2019, at Massena Central High School.
Due to inclement weather, twenty-five community members joined five health care providers in walking a mile or more around the school hallways. Katie Daigneault, Physician Assistant, Krista Francis, Nurse Practitioner, Dr. Kejian Tang, Neurologist, Dr. Sunny Patel, Pediatrician, and Dr. Sanjeev Gupta, Pediatrician, participated in the event. These providers were also available to answer any health-related questions participants had before, during and after the walk.
Dan Peacock, Physical Therapist Assistant, and Stephanie McMikle, Physical Therapy Student at Clarkson, also attended MMH’s “Walk with a Doc” event to show participants some basic stretches they should be doing before walking or running. Stretching before exercising helps loosen your muscles and prevent injury.
“Walk with a Doc” events are held the last Saturday of the month throughout St. Lawrence County. Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg will host the next walk at the Abbe Piquet Trail near the high school on October 26, 2019. Canton-Potsdam Hospital will hold the November “Walk with a Doc” on the 30th at Clarkson Cheel Arena.
