Massena Memorial Hospital encourages individuals to make a difference in their community by attending the next blood drive on Wednesday, September 18, 2019. Since Massena Memorial Hospital’s donor center is Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh, blood collected during the hospital’s drives stays close to home. The blood drive will be held in the Community Education Room on the Lower Level of the hospital starting at 10:30 am and will end at 3:30 pm. Donors should be sure to bring a valid form of identification.
All blood types are always needed, but CVPH has informed Massena Memorial Hospital that they are very low on O negative blood. There are eight different blood types, which are O positive, A positive, B positive, AB positive, O negative, A negative, B negative, and AB negative. The majority of Americans, 69 percent, have O positive or A positive blood, while only 9 percent of the U.S. population has O negative blood. With the community’s help, MMH could contribute to increasing the supply of O negative blood available for local transfusions.
By taking just a little time out of your day on September 18 to donate, you could make a huge difference in our community and surrounding ones. For more information about MMH’s Blood Drives, please call the hospital’s Public Relations Office at (315)769-4262.
