Ann Keenan, a 27-year MMH Auxilian member, highlighted for her dedication to patients and service
The Massena Memorial Hospital Auxiliary named Ann Keenan of Massena as the 2017 MMH Auxilian of the Year. Keenan was honored during the organization’s banquet at Massena Country Club.
During Keenan’s volunteer service, which spans more than 25 years, she has worked on numerous raffles, greeting patients in the main lobby and producing patient gifts. She is not only the first smiling face patients see when they enter the main hospital doors, she walks them to their destination to ensure they make it to the correct department.
“She is the perfect person to train people because she rarely skips a BEAT,” stated other Auxilians who nominated Keenan. “She always offers to help with any project I may be working on.”
Keenan explained she gets great joy from helping others. Keenan also volunteers with Trinity Catholic School and the Massena Meals on Wheels Programs. Helping others is also a way of life for her. Keenan’s mother, Elizabeth Keenan, was the MMH Auxilian of the Year, in 1994.
Keenan was surprised to win the award. She noted that she does not do anything different that other Auxilian volunteers do. “We all work together to make the hospital a success,” she said.
“Our Auxiliary members give countless hours on a daily basis of volunteer services in patient beverage cart service, health fairs, the gift shop, fundraising and advocacy,” said Tina Corcoran, Senior Director of Public Relations and Strategic Planning. “I am so pleased Ann Keenan is being recognized for the outstanding jobs she does to help the Auxiliary and the hospital.”
