Hossen Named Chief of Anesthesia

Massena Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce that Jahangir Hossen, MD is the new Chief of Anesthesia at the hospital. Dr. Hossen replaces Dr. Richard Gramer who practiced at MMH. 
Before Dr. Hossen joined MMH, he was an Attending Physician at Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone since 2005. He has over seventeen years of Anesthesia experience; previous experience include working at Franklin General Hospital, Iowa and Peninsula Hospital Center, Queens, New York.
 In 1999, Dr. Hossen completed a residency in Anesthesiology at New York Medical College in Valhalla and in 1998 completed a residency in Family Practice at Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center. He earned his Bachelor of Medicine/ Bachelor of Surgery, MBBS, degree at Sher-E-Bangla Medical College at Dhaka University in Bangladesh. 
Dr. Hossen is Board Certified in Anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology. He is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiology and the American Society of Critical Care Anesthesiology.

In addition to general anesthesia care, Dr. Jay also provides interventional pain services including nerve blocks, epidural blocks and trigger injections for patients who could benefit from those procedures. We are pleased to have Dr Jay as part of the MMH family.”
Why did you choose to join Massena Memorial Hospital?
Dr. Hossen: I was at Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone for 12 years and was looking for a change of scenery. I like working in a small community and MMH offered me the opportunity to do that. 
What are some of your duties as Chief of Anesthesia?
Dr. Hossen: Some of my duties are to assist the staff in dealing with anesthesia on a day to day basis. Also I coordinate care between anesthesia practitioners and the nursing staff
What is the most important thing to you in delivering good patient care?
Dr. Hossen: Patient safety is number one for me because I want to make sure ever patient is well taken care of the best way.
What is the one thing you want patients to know about you?
Dr. Hossen: I mainly work on the operating floor along with the OB/GYN and ER units. I am here on call 24 hours every fourth night. My staff and I are very open each patient’s individual needs and pain management levels.
Dr. Hossen has received extensive training in Anesthesiology in the following fields: Neurosurgery, Cardiothoracic, Vascular, Transplant, Obstetric Anesthesia: routine and high risk and Pediatrics.
