MMH AUXILIARY HELP DECORATE FOR HOLIDAYS

Massena Memorial Hospital Auxiliary volunteers truly make a difference. Massena Memorial Hospital Auxiliary help throughout the hospital with special events, the information desk, gift shop, patient juice/beverage cart and many others ways throughout the year. Every Christmas, members of the Auxiliary volunteer to help decorate trees throughout the hospital for patients, employees and visitors. Pictured (from left to right) are Kay Romeo, Auxiliary President, Doreen Johnson, Cathy Faucher and Patrician O’Connell, decorating a tree outside the hospital’s Wing Board Room.
How do volunteers get involved? In the hospital, a volunteer can get involved with Hostess Committee, Beverage Cart, Gift Shop, Medical Library, Information/Hostess Desk, Patient Gifts, Other areas of volunteering include: Record keeping, Telephone work, Publicity, Community Health Programs, Special Fund Raisers or community projects and the Christmas Cash Drawing.
What is the Auxiliary mission? Through the moneys earned in the above-mentioned areas, the Auxiliary fosters an interest in our local medical community by providing scholarships to area high school students for nursing/medical careers. Additionally, the MMH Auxiliary has been recognized many times with the Healthcare Association of New York’s Advocacy Award.
“The MMH Auxiliary volunteer hundreds of hours each year. We greatly appreciate everything they do here for our patients, visitors and employees,” said Tina Corcoran, Senior Director Public Relations/Planning/Physician Recruitment.
How much time is involved if you join the MMH Auxiliary? This really depends on the area of service and how much time can be volunteered by and individual.
Are there meetings to attend? General meetings are a business/social affair, open to all members, active or inactive. They are held the fourth Wednesday in May, October and December at a local restaurant. Although members are encouraged to attend, meetings are not obligatory. Usually an entertaining program or guest speaker follows the lunch, so it is a wonderful opportunity to meet new people, renew friendships, and enjoy an afternoon. Board meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month, except July and August, and are attended by the officers, directors, and committee chairpersons.
