Patient Education an important link to getting better Massena Memorial Hospital’s number one priority is the delivery of quality patient care. As part of the continuity of care the hospital has implemented a Community Outreach program. When someone is an inpatient, their main goal is to go home. Each patient is given discharge instructions, but sometimes the message is forgotten because they are in a hurry to go home.

Physical Therapists are in a unique position to offer not only the wound care expertise, but also the complementary modalities such as ultrasound or electrical stimulation to assist in wound healing. Physical Therapists are also the experts in positioning, and modification of seating systems. As part of the additional training, physical therapists are able to perform “conservative sharp debridement” (removing harmful or unhealthy tissue using tweezers or scissors), which other members of the healthcare team cannot.

In addition, a new interactive website (www.massenahospital.org) was designed offering convenient tools such as on-line pre-registration, bill pay, apply for a job on-line, search for a physician and patient education.
