Massena Memorial Hospital Expands Campus with new Medical Office Building
Massena Memorial Hospital officials cut the ribbon on May 7, 2013 to celebrate the opening of the new MMH Medical Office Building that will house primary care physicians, specialty physicians and surgeons, along with the Wound Care Clinic.
The new medical office building is located on Maple Street, directly across from the hospital. The new facility will provide space for Dr. Kejian Tang, Neurologist, and Dr. Ammar Kafa, Fairly Medicine Physician to start this fall. Additionally, the MMH Surgical Group and Wound Care will have Dr. Suhail Daye and Dr. Rosalind Mariano, Board Certified General Surgeons. Dr. Luis Canales, Board Certified Gastroenterologist and colleague Linda Letham, Nurse Practitioner, will also be practicing in a private suite. There is additional space for physicians the hospital is currently recruiting for.
Charles F. Fahd, II, FACHE, Chief Executive Officer, said “The new facility will benefit both MMH and the community by allowing the hospital to offer new services currently unavailable in the area. The concept and need for this type of facility has certainly been questioned over the last year, but I believe this is a facility worth the cost. It will greatly assist the hospital in our seraph for new physicians”
The $3.9 million medical office building that is a 20,300 square foot facility. The facility will have two levels; the top level of the building will accommodate 10 to 12 medical practitioners. The first phase of the construction is completed the medical suites on the top level along with a beautiful sun-lit atrium, Phlebotomy center, conference room, and a comfortable patient/visitor waiting area. The design takes advantage of natural lighting which is comforting to the patients.
“The facility is 75% occupied on the upper level with room for two additional practitioners. The lower level space will provide more services with greater convenience for residents as well as added revenue for the hospital,” said Mark Brouillette, Senior Director of Ancillary Services.
Brouillette explained the facility will accommodate 10-12 medical practitioners and also will have a sunlit atrium, a phlebotomy center, a conference room and waiting are. The building was built on a slope of a hill, with the appearance from the street of a one-floor structure, to fit in better with the surrounding buildings. The building is handicap accessible, with automatic doors and parking lots at both levels. Once the lower level is completed an elevator will be included.
The second phase is the completion and design of the lower level, which will have a separate entrance which faces the Grasse River. The Medical Suites will be built to the providers specifications.
This project is an expansion of the Massena Memorial Hospital campus and the building is located across from the hospital on the corners of Maple Street and West Avenue. Entrance to the facility will be from Maple Street.
The building was designed by King & King Architects, LLP of Syracuse. The Construction team included Northern Tier Contracting, Hyde Stone Contracting, Collins Hammond Electrical and Burns Brothers Mechanical Contracting.
