MMH Foundation
Time in the hospital can be a lonely and frightening time whether you are a toddler or senior citizen. Imagine the young child receiving chemotherapy and as a consequence must remain in a treatment chair for hours. Was there a time when you or a loved one would have enjoyed an in-room entertainment option other than television? The MMH Foundation recognizes that there are times when our patients
are in need of:
* a distraction from their health problem;
* entertainment to help pass the time; or
* perhaps some “company” for those hours
without visitors.
In an effort to make our patients’ more comfortable, the MMH Foundation is asking the community members to consider assisting with the purchase of mobile touch screen computer stations. Each station offers over 100 interactive games in multiple languages for patients of all ages.
“The goal is to purchase one bedside unit for inpatients along with one chair unit for our Oncology outpatients,” explained Julia Rose, Foundation Director. “Imagine what these units will do for those patients – especially the younger patients.”

Ben Franklin Club...lighting the way for your community hospital.
“I give to the Ben Franklin Club in memory of my wife, Peggy, because annual funds are important to the Foundation so that it may support whatever the hopsital’s greatest need may be.”
H. Olin Peets
Founding Ben Franklin Club Member 1995.
Over 50 years ago, the founders of what is now Massena Memorial Hospital had a vision of providing quality medical care in our community. The MMH Foundation continues this vision by providing the funding necessary to enhance patient care.
Within our walls, MMH offers our hospital community a state-of-the-art medical and surgical facility, family birthing center and a top-notch Veterans Clinic.
In 2004 MMH addressed a community need in the form of a state-of-the art off campus Renal Dialysis Center .
As MMH continues to improve the healthcare it provides the community, the support generated from the Ben Franklin Club will become ever more important.
Membership in the Ben Franklin Club is offered to those who make an annual contribution of $100 or more to Massena Memorial Hospital Foundation. In addition, we encourage members to take an active interest in the progress of Massena Memorial Hospital by seeking the support of others to join the Ben Franklin Club.
Ben Franklin contributions help provide quality medical care when it’s needed for not only you, but your family, your friends, and the community we service.
Privileges include:
An annual listing of the names of all Ben Franklin Club members on the recognition display in the hospital’s main corridor.

Planned Giving Guide
CAREFUL PLANNING CAN ENSURE YOUR LEGACY AND WISHES .
DID YOU KNOW???
~ Charitable giving is an effective estate planning tool.
~ You can possibly obtain a tax deduction for donating property or securities.
~ You can set-up a Trust that has the income go to the MMH Foundation while the property passes to anyone you designate.
~ You can set-up a Trust that has the income go to you and the property passes to the MMH Foundation.
~ You can name the MMH Foundation as owner or a full or partial beneficiary on a Life Insurance policy.
BEQUESTS
Considering the MMH Foundation in your will and estate planning can be very effective in reducing both current and/or future tax obligations. And at the same time, you help MMH Foundation prepare for the future health and well-being of the Massena community! See your attorney and/or estate planning professional for more details.
CAPITAL GAINS TAXES
While cash makes a wonderful gift to any charity, your donation of property or financial securities may be deductible now at its current market value. For example, if selling some older stock or property would create a large capital gains tax liability, consider donating it to the MMH Foundation and you may be able to deduct its current market value. See your financial advisor or tax professional for more details.
CHARITABLE INCOME TRUST
A Charitable Income Trust allows you to have its interest income go to the MMH Foundation. Eventually, the remaining funds return to you or anyone else you designate. See your attorney and/or estate planning professional for more details.
CHARITABLE REMAINDER TRUST (CRT)
A Charitable Remainder Trust works similarly to the Charitable Income Trust. It allows you to have trust income paid to you or anyone you designate for a certain period of time. After that, the property or securities in the trust passes to a charity like the MMH Foundation. What a way to enjoy income from your holdings, reduce your tax obligation and help the MMH Foundation! See your attorney and/or estate planning professional for more details.
LIFE INSURANCE
There are several ways you can help the MMH Foundation using Life Insurance. The easiest is to simply name the Foundation as a full or partial beneficiary of a policy. This may not help your current tax obligations but it could reduce the size of your taxable estate later.
An even more efficient use of Life Insurance is by naming MMH Foundation as the owner of your policy. Your premium AND lump sum payout could be tax deductible. This way you could significantly increase the amount that MMH Foundation receives AND possibly have some tax reduction benefits for yourself. See your insurance professional, attorney and/or tax advisor for more details on the use of life insurance for charitable purposes.
Remembrances, a Garden
of Hope, Memorials and Honor
The
Foundation has kicked off a project that will enhance and beautify the
Massena Memorial Hospital campus, as well as an opportunity to leave
a lasting impression on our community.
The Foundation is launching an engraved bricks project. The brick project is entitled: "Remembrances, a Garden of Hope, Memorials and Honor." "Building better health, one brick at a time," noted John Murray, Foundation President.
All funds raised will be used to continue the Foundation's mission to support ongoing hospital programs. Many times the Foundation's efforts of proceeds go toward purchasing equipment that enhances patient care.
John A. Murray, Foundation Board President, added, "The Remembrances brick project is a wonderful way to show your support for our local hospital as well as leaving a lasting impression for generations to come. By purchasing a brick you are showing the community that you would like to take a place in Massena's history. What a nice way to show someone that you wish to make a permanent declaration of your support".
The bricks will be crafted into an attractive walkway and patio garden located near and around the time capsule monument. All visitors will be drawn to the garden due to it's prime location and beauty.
Brick order forms/brochures are available at the Foundation office, please call 769-4602 or 769-4273. Or please click on the link to print out informational 'Rembrances' Form
CAPITAL PROJECT
Ensuring that we have the very best health care services possible takes a significant long-term financial commitment from you and everyone in our community.
It also means that we will have to be creative in raising the funds needed to ensure the health care services of our community are met. Keeping up with medical technology and making changes at Massena Memorial Hospital will be expensive.
In the Spring of 2003, Massena Memorial Hospital held its official ground breaking ceremonies on the new 27,000 square foot building expansion project. The building project entitled “It’s All About Getting Better” is comprised of a new Physical Therapy and Respiratory Therapy on the ground level with a separate entrance for improved patient flow and access. The main level houses a new Laboratory and a newly renovated Medical Imaging Department and Woman’s Imaging Center that is utilizing the vacated space in that was the former laboratory. The first floor houses a beautiful state of the art Intensive & Coronary Care unit that consists of four ICU beds that are under the direct visual supervision of the nurse’s station. The area features six new ultra modern Telemetry rooms that require more supervision than the traditional patient room, but not as much as the Intensive Care unit. Renovations to the area vacated by Respiratory Therapy, recently occurred on the third floor of the existing hospital structure. In addition, the North Country Veteran’s Clinic and Endoscopy Center will be relocated to a larger clinical area to meet their continued growth. Costs are expected in the $10.5 million range.
In support of this vision,
the MMH Foundation is committed to a campaign to raise $1.5
million dollars. To date, we are nearly at the $1 million
dollar mark and we need your commitment to assist us in meeting this
goal.
With the challenges facing health care today, community involvement
will continue to be vitally important as we maintain modern facilities
and up-to-date medical technology.
The Massena Memorial Hospital Foundation is excited about the future of our health care services. Whether you are a seasonal resident or a permanent resident of Massena, our community has it all…tourism, industry, excellent social services and beautiful surroundings.
We also have some of the finest, most dedicated health care professionals. They need our help in ensuring that funds are available to maintain the high quality of care that this community is used to.
A
Smart Investment
Contributing to the Campaign is an investment. It is an
investment in health and enjoyment of life for you, your family, and
your friends in Massena, NY. It makes
good sense to invest in your health.
Thank you for your support and dedication to this cause.
